SPIRITUAL WEDDINGS

SPIRITUAL WEDDINGS – HAVE YOU THOUGHT OF IT?

  • 3 abril, 2020

More and more couples are searching for 100% personalized weddings, wishing to leave behind establishment and protocol, to find new experiences, and celebrate their love in their very own way.

Have you ever heard of Spiritual Weddings? Today we want to introduce this new concept, which is little by little gaining space in Mexico and the world; you will soon find out why.

SPIRITUAL WEDDINGS

Before we begin, what is a Spiritual Wedding?

It is a “Soul Agreement”, because without any institution mediating, just two people who wish to make their mutual commitment with friends and family as witnesses, they do it through their own promises and through symbols and rituals.  In a spiritual wedding, what is celebrated is simply the love between two people…what can be better

Angelina Celebrant is certified as a Life Cycle Celebrant by the Celebrant Foundation and Institute in New Jersey, USA, with a special degree in Weddings and Ceremonies for Couples.  We had the chance to talk to her and get to know a little more about this concept.

“Some years ago, my son got married in New York, and a Celebrant performed a brief, beautiful ceremony; she sounded so familiar, it felt like she had known them forever.  I came to her and she explained to me that I could study online and get certified. I did, and so I started by offering my friends and their children who were getting married if they wanted me to celebrate for them, and this is how I started to be known, and word about what I was doing started to spread.  It has been more than five years and more that a hundred ceremonies, like Vow Renewals, Baby Welcomes and milestone Birthdays, besides weddings.”

Bodas espirituales

Angelina loves to investigate about new rituals from different cultures and traditions around the world, and as she is fully bilingual, she has had the opportunity to celebrate for people from different nationalities, who have shared their own rituals, like the one from Thailand, where guests pour water with a shell on the hands of the couple as they pronounce a blessing for them, or the shower of good wishes, throwing sweets, flowers and coins to the couple under an umbrella, from Indonesia, or the Celtic Handfasting ritual which we recently saw in Prince William and Kate’s wedding, and is still customary in that part of the world.

Her favorite ritual? The Transmission of the Light, for sure!

“I talk about how the parents of each of them have  transmitted them love, support and values, thanks to which they are the wonderful people they are today, and then each parent lights the candle of his/her child, then the couple light together their Unity Candle, symbolizing their commitment to bring the best of their lineage to their new family.”

A ceremony is made up of four or five rituals, and it lasts 20 to 30 minutes.  Angelina usually explains the different options to the couple, and they choose those which they find more representative of their love and meaningful to them, and they can of course make the changes they want.  This is why she says that no two of her ceremonies are equal, because each ceremony reflects the unique style of each couple. Angelina also tells the story of the couple, which makes the guests feel more familiarized with them, and anyone they choose can participate in the ceremony.

SPIRITUAL WEDDINGS

Why celebrate a Spiritual Wedding?

“It is an excellent option for those couples who do not practice a particular religion, second or third marriages, with or without children and also same sex couples, because unlike the civil ceremony, in a spiritual wedding lovers can express their love however they want to, enjoying the celebration of their love with family and friends, and most important, in a very original and significant way, which their guests and themselves will remember forever.”

Now you know this wonderful option, a ceremony centered in celebrating your love, which marks the beginning of your married life, and which is no doubt, the most important part of a wedding.

“Simple or sophisticated, formal or informal, sober or full of mystique, your ceremony will be unforgettable…”
